Kerala HC order on activist Rehana Fathima''s anticipatory bail Monday

The Kerala High Court will on Monday give its order on the anticipatory bail plea filed by controversial activist Rehana Fathima.

Fathimais on the run after a furore when she posted a video on her Facebook account showing her two minor kids, a girl and a boy, painting on her semi-nude body.

She used the hashtag #BodyArt and Politics and wrote: "No child who has seen his own mother''s nakedness and body can abuse the female body."

However, the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights asked the police to register a case against her.

When the police reached her house searching for her, Fathima was not there and then filed an anticipatory bail plea in the High Court.

Fathima shot into the limelight in October 2018 when she was forced to abandon her plan to pray at the Sabarimala temple, following a huge backlash and protests against her and the accompanying police by Hindu right-wing activists who stayed put in the temple, determined to thwart any attempt by her.

After it was found that she was a BSNL employee hailing from Kochi, angry BJP and RSS activists staged a protest in front of her house.

For the past 18 months, she was under suspension. After a BSNL probe found that her Facebook messages had fanned communal tension and she had violated service rules, her services were terminated last month on disciplinary grounds.

The Sabarimala temple doesn''t allow entry to girls and women, aged 10-50 years, and protests had broken out after the Supreme Court lifted the ban. The issue is pending before a larger constitutional bench.
