A ferry carrying 124 people and 10 crew members caught fire while travelling to Quezon province on the main Luzon Island. It was about to catch on fire, according a spokesperson of the Philippine Coast Guard.
Commodore Armand Balilo reported that Mercraft 2 left Polillo, an Island town in the province at 5:00 a.m. and was heading to a Port of Real town when it caught flames about 900 meters from the port.
Passengers and crew had to jump into a sea of flames after the fire. Balilo stated that 105 people were saved from the sea, and six were taken to a local medical center.
The PCG provided photos and videos showing the incident. It showed the boat in flames and people trying to escape the ferry on a raft. Another photo shows people holding onto floating ropes and objects. Also, a video was taken of a PCG member trying to revive a man.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by authorities.
