Ranil Wickremesinghe was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 24/03/49. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the current Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, is a Member from the National Party’s Parliament. Since 1994, he is the leader and chief of the United National Party. He was the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka between 1993 and 1994, 2001 to 2004 and 2015 to 2018, 2018 to 2019, and 2019 to 2019.

Ranil Wickremesinghe Ranil Wickremesinghe was the son of a prominent political family. He graduated at the University of Ceylon, and became a lawyer at the Ceylon Law College. He entered active politics in the mid-1970s with the United National Party and was elected first from Byagama to the parliament. He was a registered voter at the 1977 parliamentary elections. His uncle President J.R. Jayawardene nominated him to be Deputy Minister of External Affairs. He was the youngest minister in Sri Lanka’s cabinet, and was appointed Minister of Youth Affairs and Employment.

In 1989, President Ranasinghe Premadasa named Wickremesinghe Minister of Industry, Science and Technology and the Leader of the House. Following Premadasa’s assassination and Vijetunga’s succession to the presidency, DB Wijetunga was assassinated. In 1993, Wickremesinghe succeeded Wickremesinghe as prime minister. In November 1994, Wickremesinghe was named Leader of Opposition following the assassination Gamini Dianayake in the 1994 presidential election campaign. Wickremesinghe was elected Prime Minister by President Maithripala Sirisena on the 8th of January 2015. He defeated President Mahindarajapaksa at the 2015 presidential elections.

Ranil Wickremesinghe’s coalition coalition, the United National Front for Good Governance, won the 2015 parliamentary election with 106 seats. While this result was short of an absolute majority Wickremesinghe was elected as Prime Minister again with more than 35 members from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party joining his cabinet. President Maithripala Sirisena removed Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister on 26 October 2018. He appointed former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the role of Prime Minister. The constitutional crisis was ended by Wickremesinghe being reappointed Prime Minister by Sirisena in December 2018. After the 2019 presidential elections, he resigned as Prime Minster and was replaced by Mahindarajapaksa.
