Since Tuesday’s news that Sanju Samson from Kerala, who captained Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2021 was revealed, speculation has been rife in this area.
Although Samson’s team did not make it to the playoffs his performance with the bat was noticed by many. With India’s final squad starting on October 17 and ending on October 15, there are high hopes that Samson will be drafted in, as some of the selected players are struggling with form or niggles.
In his seven matches in the UAE leg, Samson has scored 207 runs, scoring 82 runs as the highest and following up with 70 runs. Samson also has the advantage of being a wicketkeeper, which he was for his teammates.
Players like Rahul Chahar and Hardik Paandya have not performed well during the UAE leg. The speculation seems to have been based on Samson’s request to stay in UAE until further notice, even though his team was eliminated from the IPL on Oct 7. The bio-bubble atmosphere reigns in the Covid pandemic era. Samson and his supporters will be watching closely until October 15, when the final T20 World Cup squad will be revealed.
