Assam government continues providing relief material for flood-affected areas

As Assam’s flood situation in Nagaon continues to be dire, Nagaon deputy commissioner Nisarg Hivare said Monday that the state government has been providing relief materials and no one must pay.
“Relief material being provided. All expenses are borne by the government. There is no one who has to pay. We have received a complaint and will investigate, Nisarg Hivare, Nagaon Deputy Commissioner, said.
He said that he had sent three-day relief materials out to the affected people, and was now ready to transport relief materials for five consecutive days. It’s totally free. No one needs to pay anything.

While the overall flood situation has improved in Assam, over 33.03 crore people in 28 areas remain affected by the natural calamity. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority(ASDMA), informed Saturday.
ASDMA reports that 117 people have died this year in floods and landslides across the state. 100 of these people were killed by floods, 17 from landslides.
It was also reported that 8.76 Lakh people had been affected by the earthquake in Barpeta, followed closely by 4.01 Lakh in Kamrup, 5.08 Lakh in Nagaon, 2.76 Lakh in Cachar, 2.16 lakh in Karimganj and 1.84 million in Dhubri. Additionally, 1.70 Lakh people have been affected by the earthquake in Darrang, Assam.
According to officials, the Indian Airforce has deployed seven types fixed- and rotary wing aircraft in different flood-affected regions.
Himanta Biswa, Assam Chief Minister, visited Silchar earlier in the day to assess the flood situation and take stock of the conditions of those who were affected by the flood.
