The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), has announced that Eder Militao, Brazil’s central defender, has been disqualified from Brazil’s 2022 World Cup qualifier against Uruguay due to a hamstring injury.
The injury occurred in the second half in Brazil’s goalless draw against Colombia in Barranquilla, Sunday.
CBF released a statement online stating that scans indicated that the Real Madrid centre-back was not fit for Thursday’s match at Arena da Amazonia, Manaus.
According to Xinhua, Miltao’s departure will likely open the door for Thiago Silva, a Chelsea veteran and Marquinhos of Paris Saint-Germain to return to the heartbeat of Brazil’s defense.
Brazil leads the South American qualifying group of 10 teams with 28 points after 10 matches. Uruguay is currently fourth, 12 points behind. The four top teams in the qualifying rounds will automatically qualify for the 2022 World Cup Qatar, while the fifth will be in a playoff.
