The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the August 2021 Player of the Month nominees. They include Jasprit Bumrah from India, Joe Root from England and Shaheen Afridi from Pakistan.
Bumrah’s fast bowling was outstanding against England. He took nine wickets in the first test. His role as a batsman in the second Test at Lord’s, where he played a crucial role in India’s victory, was also noteworthy.
England won the series 3-1 thanks to Root, the captain who scored runs at will. Root scored centuries in all three Tests against India in August. This achievement helped him rise to the top in the ICC Test batting rankings.
In August’s two Tests against West Indies, Afridi promised wickets whenever he was given the ball. Afridi ended the series with 18 wickets and took 10 wickets in Test 2. This helped Pakistan win the second Test by a record 109 runs. Afridi, who took 10 wickets in Test 2, became fourth youngest paceman from Pakistan, following Waqar Younis, Mohammad Zahid, and Wasim Akram.
The nominees for the Women’s ICC Player of the month for August 2021 are Nattaya Boochatham of Thailand and Eimear Richardson of Ireland.
Boochatham contributed with both bat and ball to the series against Zimbabwe which saw her rise to career-best positions in the Women’s T20I Player rankings (batters, bowlers, all-rounders)
She helped Thailand beat Zimbabwe 2-1 in their T20I series.
Richardson and Lewis played a major role in Ireland’s win of three out of four at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, August.
Lewis was the first player from Ireland to score a century during women’s T20Is. This happened in their 164-run victory over Germany in the opening match of the tournament. Lewis’ knock included 11 fours and three sixes. Her 105 was only 60 balls.
Richardson was awarded the Player of the Tournament in Europe Qualifiers for her contributions to both bat and ball. She took seven wickets and scored 76 runs.
