According to Daily Mail, COVID-19 has returned to the central Chinese city it originated in just days following Xi’s visit.
Millions of Beijingites are now subject to mandatory testing. Thousands are also under lockdowns. This is just days after Beijing lifted widespread curbs that had been in place for over a month to deal with a larger outbreak in April. China’s residents have suffered severe consequences in the first half (2022) due to the strict lockdowns in place and the demanding testing procedures that were carried out in different parts.
Income has also suffered from the negative economic effects of the zero COVID strategy. Fiscal revenue decreased by 4.8% over the year during the four months ending April according to the Finance Ministry. This was mainly due tax refunds for businesses.
