The overnight rains that fell on the national capital plunged the temperature, but it did not disrupt normal life.
According to reports, heavy rains caused traffic jams in Delhi’s various parts. This left commuters stuck in long lines at major roads such as the ITO junction.
Due to strong winds and thunderstorms around Delhi, some trees were also uprooted. One large tree fell near Delhi’s cantonment area, blocking traffic on both sides and causing inconvenience for commuters.
Aside from traffic jams and water-logging, all low-lying areas were also affected.
In the early hours of the morning, Delhi-NCR as well as large areas of northwest India were hit by a dust storm. This was followed by gusty winds, lightning and wind that brought down the temperature to 11 degrees.
The IMD predicted that a wet spell would hit northwest India in three days starting on May 22. It was to peak intensity on May 23.
During this time, flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) were also affected. The airport authorities asked passengers for updated flight information and requested that they contact the airline.
