Dhoni praises KKR after winning the IPL title

DUBAI, OCT 16, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni thanked the Kolkata Knight Riders for their triumphant return in the UAE leg. They reached the summit clash despite playing poorly in the first half of the tournament. Former India captain, MS Dhoni said that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was the best team to win IPL 2021.

CSK’s Dhoni defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs to win their fourth title. KKR was restricted to 165/9 overs, while CSK managed 192/3 in their 20 overs. KKR made a strong start to chase the stiff target but Dhoni’s team kept their nerves in the final and took wickets at regular intervals.

KKR was languishing at seventh place in the table, with only two wins in seven matches. IPL 2021 was halted in March due to a Covid-19 epidemic among players.

They reached the final, which was an amazing achievement. Dhoni praised them during the presentation ceremony.

“Before we talk about CSK, let’s talk about KKR. It was difficult to go back and do what they did. If any team deserved the IPL title, it’s KKR. The coaches, team and support staff deserve a lot of credit. Dhoni stated that the break was a great help to them on Friday night.

Kolkata won seven out of the 10 matches in the UAE leg IPL 2021. They lost twice to Chennai Super Kings, once to Delhi Capitals. Kolkata qualified for the playoffs as fourth-placed team.

It looked easy to reach the target by chasing 193, as KKR openers Shubman Gil and VenkateshIyer began the chase. However, Kolkata lost wickets frequently to lose the chase. They ended up with 165/9 after 20 overs.

They were also hindered by Rahul Tripathi’s injury, their top middle-order batsman. He was forced to leave the ground during the contest.

It happened during the seventh over of CSK innings. Tripathi ran in from deep to stop openers Ruturaj Gawad and Faf Du Plessis stealing a double. He was unable to stop the ball from hitting him in the ankle. Tripathi was quickly seen limping to the boundary to get medical attention.
