According to Xinhua, the move was made in order to implement President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi’s pardon decision.

The Egyptian Constitution allows the President to issue pardon decrees to prisoners who have received final court decisions that can’t be appealed.

The Egyptian President typically issues a pardon decree for public holidays, including two religious Muslim festivals: the holy month Ramadan and July 23 Revolution anniversary.

The Arab-Israeli War was an armistice that erupted between Israel and a group of Arab states, led by Egypt. It lasted from October 6-25th 1973 to 25th 1975.
