Entering UCL semis one of biggest achievements of RB Leipzig, says Yussuf Poulsen

Yusuf Poulsen is a RB Leipzig striker who joined the club in the third-tier German Bundesliga. He believes that the club’s greatest achievement in recent years was their entry into the semifinals in the UEFA Champions League.

After finishing runners-up in Bundesliga 2017, RB Leipzig became one of the first European teams from former East Germany. In August 2020, the club became history when they reached the Champions League semi-finals. They lost against Paris Saint-Germain, Ligue 1’s biggest rivals.

“I believe that one of our greatest achievements was getting into the semifinals and being one of four (teams in Europe). This is a huge, major achievement for the club. Poulsen stated that eight years ago, we were in the third division. “To get into the top four of all European teams was big,” Poulsen told an online media interaction.

Since July 2013, the Danish international has been supporting Leipzig from Lyngby, where he was 19 years old. To earn the first of his two promotions, he scored 10 league goals and has been a Bundesliga runner up on two other occasions.

Poulsen spoke out about the calf injury he sustained early in the season. I took a few more holidays than the others. In terms of fitness, I was slightly behind the others. I was able to play my first match since my calf injury, after the winter vacation. It was great. After talks with doctors and physios, I was able to play for 45 minutes. The game went well, and we won. It was a good experience. Although it was difficult, I am now on the right path.”

Poulsen, who has made more appearances than any other Leipzig player, has over 300. The 27-year old Poulsen spoke out about COVID-19 and said that the problem is the squad’s limitations. This is affecting all teams around the globe. The reality is that we live in a time when you have to manage fewer people. Every day we have tests, so we are better protected than the average person. We have to manage.”

Christopher Nkunku is set to return to the RB Leipzig starting line-up for the trip to relegation-threatened VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.
