Mehr than 12 people were duped by fake websites offering a chopper ride to Uttarakhand’s ‘Char Dham Yotra’.
Five cases of this nature were reported at Lucknow’s cyber cell and ten at UP Cyber Cell in the past month.
Triveni Singh (UP Cyber Cell Superintendent of Police) stated that many people are complaining about the ride being offered by various websites.
Singh stated that this type of scam is not only common in UP, but also in other states such as Haryana and Punjab.
Preliminary investigation revealed that fraudsters were being carried out by a gang operating along the border between Jharkhand, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
He added, “We even receive complaints from other countries.”
One victim said that she paid Rs.50,000 for a trip through the shrines, but she and her family were denied entry to Dehradun.
According to her, the reason was that the tickets she had “booked” were fake.
According to the complaint the victim was called by a man who claimed to be Pawan Hans Ltd., which is based out of Dehradun. After the fraudster obtained their Aadhar card, passport, and Covid-19 vaccination details, the scammer sent the helicopter tickets by WhatsApp.
All of these tickets were discovered to be fakes only after the plane landed.
Police officers have warned people to avoid choosing private companies. They advise them to verify that the Char Dham Yatra has been accessed through a government-authorized heli-service site and confirm this from the tourism department.
Singh also advised people not to transfer money to anyone or give bank details to anyone unknown.
