Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, will be able to play in the UAE during the second phase IPL 2021 which begins on September 19.
He thinks that the UAE’s conditions will be a good fit for the Mumbai Indians’ pacers. They’ve experienced conditions completely different from the ones they are used to. You can see that the conditions in Chepauk and Delhi are very different to what you find at Wankhede. They are playing in conditions that are suitable for their fast bowling, people like Jasprit Boult and Trent Boult, Gambhir stated on Star Sports’ Game Plan.
“They will be very dangerous because there will be swing ahead. Mumbai needs balls to swing, and they have quality fast bowlers. It’s going be an advantage for them. Their batters want the balls to be on the field, too. People like Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya struggled at Chepauk because it was so gripping and turning.
They won’t have to struggle once they play in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. “That’s why I believe Mumbai Indians will have an edge; they don’t have the luxury of a slow starter anymore. They have seven games left and might need to win 5 matches in order to qualify. So they can’t afford that situation where they have five wins out of five.” he said.
Mumbai Indians will launch IPL 2021 at the Dubai International Stadium with Chennai Super Kings, three-time champions.
