Team India is set to embark on a tour of South Africa in the first week of December, featuring Test, One Day International (ODI), and T20 series. The Test series will kick off on December 26, starting with the first match in Centurion. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might announce the team for this tour on Thursday. Questions linger in the minds of fans regarding the inclusion of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. It remains to be seen whether BCCI provides an opportunity to Rahane and Pujara or opts for fresh faces.
Ajinkya Rahane has delivered impressive performances on several occasions for Team India. Despite his experience, he might miss the Test series against South Africa. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are likely to get the opportunity. Rahane last played a Test match for India in July 2023 against the West Indies and did not have a notable performance in recent domestic matches, scoring 8, 3, 34, 15, and 13 runs in the last five innings.
Pujara, with 103 matches for India, last played a Test match in June 2023. He has accumulated 7195 runs during his international career, including a double century with a highest score of 206 runs. Pujara has registered 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. However, if new players are given a chance, Pujara might miss out on the series.
It’s worth mentioning that the T20 series between India and South Africa will commence on December 10, followed by the ODI series starting on December 14, featuring three matches. The first Test match is scheduled for December 26, with the second Test starting on January 3. The matches will take place in Cape Town.
