Libya launches Covid vaccination of illegal migrants

A Covid-19 vaccination campaign has been launched by the anti-illegal migration department of Libya at a Tripoli reception center.

Husni Abu Ayana, a spokesperson for the reception center, said that they are currently carrying a vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCD) and the International Organization for Migration. It targets 823 migrants.

“First doses will now and tomorrow be administered.” He added that police officers are also being targeted for vaccination.

According to the centre the campaign will be targeted at a number reception centres in Tripoli as well as other nearby cities and will last three weeks.

The centre revealed that there have been 343,932 Covid-19 cases in Libya, with 266,348 recoveries so far and 4,720 deaths.

One vaccine has been administered to 1,413,069 Libyans, and two have been given to 253,017.
