Maduro blasts America for exclusion of countries from Americas Summit

Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelan President, has condemned the US’ exclusion of Nicaragua and Cuba from the Summit of the Americas due to take place in Los Angeles on June 6-10.

Reports Xinhua that Maduro declared his government’s rejection of “the imperialist vision which intends to exclude the peoples of Americas” at a regional gathering.

The Venezuelan President was in Havana for the 21st Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America People’s Trade Agreement, (ALBA-TCP), that took place Friday.

He said that the ALBA-TCP’s approach to the Americas Summit is different from Washington’s. It is inclusive and unifying and works on issues that affect people’s lives in the region.

Maduro stated that “if there is any thing truly democratic on the continent, it’s ALBA, both from the point-of-view of its debates, and the sharing of diverse views.”

Kevin O’Reilly, the US coordinator for the Americas Summit, reiterated Thursday that Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba were not invited to the meeting.
