Maharashtra’s political crisis: NCP chief Sharad Pwar hosts party meeting

Sharad Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party held a party meeting on Thursday amid political instability in Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA), government in Maharashtra.
The meeting takes place at the NCP chief’s residence. The meeting is attended by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and state Home Minister Dilipwalse Patil, Jayant Patil, Jitendra Awhad, Sunil Tatkare, and ministers Jayant Patil.
42 Maharashtra MLAs and Eknath Shinne are currently in Guwahati with Eknath. According to informed sources, this includes eight Independent MLAs and 34 MLAs representing Shiv Sena.
Seven more MLAs joined the rebel group of MLAs headed by Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena leader in Guwahati, on Thursday morning. This further exacerbated the political instability within the Maha Vikas Agardian government.
They made it to Guwahati’s Radisson Blu Hotel where other MLAs are currently campaigning. Shinde was joined in Guwahati by four more MLAs last night.
A resolution, signed by 34 MLAs, that the rebel leader Eknath Shinde is still the leader, was also passed by the Shiv Sena Legislature Party and sent to Governor Bhagat Singh Kishyari.
Uddhav Thackeray, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Deputy Commissioner to Maharashtra, left his official residence “Varsha” on Wednesday with his family members. He had expressed his willingness to resign if rebel MLAs return to Mumbai and made this demand.
Supporters and workers of Shiv Sena poured flowers and slogans on Thackeray’s behalf as he left his official residence Versha Bungalow last night amid political instability.
Eknath Shiv Sena, the party’s legislative leader, had been removed by the Shiv Sena following the political crisis. But, rebels have reacted to the resolution.
In the resolution, they stated that Shiv Sena’s ideology had been compromised in two years. They also voiced dissatisfaction at “corruption within government,” referring specifically to Anil Deshmukh, Nawab Malik, currently in prison.
“Bharat Gogawale was appointed Chief Whip for the Shiv Sena Legislative Party. Eknath Shinde said that Sunil Prabhu’s directive regarding the Legislative Party meeting today was illegal.
Thackeray had earlier addressed the people via Facebook and stated that he would be willing to give up his resignation to party MLAs, who can then take it to Raj Bhavan.
He said that party MLAs were trying to get him out, and instead of going to Surat they could have expressed their feelings to him. Thackeray said that it was shameful for him to have even one MLA against him.
Thackeray stated that “if any MLA wishes me to cease as the CM”, he was ready to move all my belongings to Matoshri from Varsha Bungalow, the official residence of the CM.
“I am prepared to give my resignation the MLAs. They should come here to take my resignation Raj Bhavan. He added that he was willing to leave the Shiv Sena head post not only on the orders of others, but also for the sake of my workers.”
Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena leader, expressed confidence that the Shiv Sena would navigate through the crisis.
“Uddhav Thackay is Maharashtra Chief minister and he will stay the CM.” He stated that, if given the chance, we would prove our majority at the House.
However, rebel Shiv Sena MLAs stated that there was a great deal of discontent amongst workers in the party for forming the government with NCP/India National Congress because of their different ideologies.
