Mary Mara (‘ER’ and Law & Order) actor drowns

Actor Mary Mara, best known for her roles in ‘ER’ and ‘Law & Order,’ died in Cape Vincent, New York on Sunday at the age of 61. Evidently, her death was caused by drowning.
The New York State Police published a Monday report confirming that Mara was found in Cape Vincent’s St. Lawrence River by several officers around 8:10 on Sunday. A representative stated that Mara was at her sister Martha’s summer home. Initial investigations revealed that Mara drowned while swimming. According to Variety, Mara’s body was taken to Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the official cause of her death.
Craig Dorfman, Mara’s manager, confirmed Mara’s death in a statement to Variety.
Mary was one of my favorite actresses. I can still vividly recall her appearing onstage in “Mad Forest” off Broadway in 1992. She was funny, electric and an individual. She was loved by everyone. Dorfman wrote that she will be missed.

Mara was born in Syracuse, New York. Before moving on to Yale and San Francisco State University. Her film and television career began in 1989 with ‘The Preppie Murder’, where she earned more than 80 credits.
Her most notable productions are ER, in which she played Loretta Sweet, a recurring patient, and ‘Nash Bridges’, a police trial film in which she starred in the role of Inspector Bryn Carson. Her other notable TV appearances include “NYPD Blue”, “Ally McBeal”, “Farscape,” “Law and Order,” Farscape,”?Law and Order,” ‘Law and Order,” ‘Law and Order,” ‘Law and Order,” ‘The West Wing,” ‘Monk,” ‘Shameless,” ‘Ray Donovan,” & ‘Dexter,” and ’Criminals Minds.”
Mara was a part of the New York Shakespeare Festival’s production of “Twelfth Night” along with Jeff Goldblum and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. She starred alongside William Hurt in 1990’s Yale Repertory Theatre productions of Anton Chekhov’s ‘Ivanov.
Mara made her movie debut in 1992 with “Love Potion No. 9’, and that year she appeared as Billy Crystal’s daughter, in ‘Mr. Saturday Night.
Mara is survived in death by Katie Mersola, her stepdaughter, and sister Martha Mara and Susan Dailey. Scott Dailey is her brother-in law.
