Actors Neena Gupta and Arjun Kapoor who played the lead roles in ‘Sardar Ka Grandson’ spoke about their working experience in the movie and also gave a detailed overview of their on-screen characters.
Neena recalls her time as a loud, outspoken grandmother of 90 years. Neena says, “Initially, it was a bit scary to play the 90-year-old granny” in ‘Sardar Ka Grandson.”
She explains why she said yes to this project. “The fine execution came with multiple challenges. Although I was initially hesitant about playing a 90-year old woman, and I was also skeptical about the idea, once Kaashvie Nair read the script, I agreed immediately. The script is so special that it will always hold a special place within my heart. It’s all about the emotions and feelings of those who lost loved ones or homes during the country’s partition. The relationship between grandmother and grandson is the focus of the movie.
She adds, “I was thrilled to be able play a part which had a lot emotion and sentiment.”
Neena talks about the difficulties she faced while filming the movie. She says: “There were many challenges while shooting the movie in Patiala, which was freezing cold. My makeup was another challenge on the shoot. It took me 1.5 hours to apply it and 2 hours to remove it. But I eventually got used to it. Arjun and me sat down together at night in Patiala’s chilled weather for drinks. This scene was my favorite, but also the most difficult. I can remember wearing two warmers, with five to six heaters surrounding me. Although it was difficult, it became one of my most fondest memories from the shoot. Neena Gupta reveals her candid thoughts about Arjun Kapoor: “This movie was one of those movies where I began to believe that my on-set family is as good as mine.” Arjun, who played the role of my grandson in this movie, did a fantastic job. Arjun Kapoor, who played the role as ‘Amreek’ Singh, said: “The film’s idea is a fresh perspective about this amazing bond.” “Neenaji is an excellent performer and a generous co-actor, which contributed to our chemistry in film,” he says.
“Sardar Ka Grandson” premieres September 12th on Sony MAX.
