Ajit Doval, NSA, joined a virtual meeting with top security officials from the BRICS countries on Tuesday to discuss how they can collectively address regional and global security issues including drug trafficking and terrorism.
People familiar with the matter stated that Gen Patrushev from Russia, Yang Jeichi from China, and Gen Augusto Helena Ribeiro Perueira, a Brazilian security official, attended the meeting.
This meeting was held just one week after Taliban took control of Afghanistan. It is unknown if the topic was brought up during the discussions.
The BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) brings together five of the largest developing countries of the world, representing 41 per cent of the global population, 24 per cent of the global GDP and 16 per cent of the global trade.
India has been pushing for greater cooperation between the BRICS members countries to combat terrorism, extremism, and radicalisation.
