Serbia Open: Djokovic defeats Khachanov in final with Rublev

Published on

Novak Djokovic, the World No. 1, fought back from a set down and won 4-6, 6-1 and 6-2 over Karen Khachanov to reach the final of Serbia Open.

Djokovic had a slow start in the semi final clash, as Khachanov struck clean off both wings. The top-seeded won in style and won for a one-hour,59-minute victory. This would make Serbia his 37th consecutive win.

The Serb holds a Belgrade match record of 13-2 and showed signs on Saturday that he was finding his best form, as he tries for the ATP 250 title. Djokovic’s win means that he will be able to claim his maiden title at ATP 250 in 2022 before his home fans against Andrey Rudlev.

World No 8 Rublev put on another impressive performance to beat Fabio Fognini. He also set a record-breaking final with Djokovic at ATP 250.

Rublev had shown a lot of baseline hitting on Friday in his quarter-final match with Taro Dan and he displayed a similar streak to his forehand winnings on Friday as he won a 6-2,6-2 win over Fognini at Novak Tennis Center.

After Djokovic’s win in November at the 2021 ATP Finals, Rublev won the Head to Head match 6-3, 6-2.
