Sajith Premadasa of Sri Lanka’s Opposition met Qi Zhenhong (Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka) at the Office for the Opposition Leader on Wednesday.
Premadasa and China’s Ambassador had a conversation in which the leader of the Sri Lankan Opposition called on Qi Zhenhong for brotherhood in Sri Lanka during a time of crisis for the island nation, reported Colombo Page.
Premadasa also stated that Sri Lanka is looking forward to China’s generous assistance to lift it out of its current crisis and help it recover. Zhenhong should also be urged to intervene.
Premadasa stated that transparency and governance would be the top priorities of his administration. The Colombo Page reported that Premadasa stressed on eliminating corruption and bribery as well as repression.
Harsha De Silva, Samagi Jan Balawegaya Parliamentary Member, also attended the meeting.
Sri Lanka is in its worst economic crisis since independence. Food and fuel shortages, rising prices and power cuts are causing massive protests about the government’s handling.
