Online food delivery platform Swiggy on Monday announced the launch of an industry-first-accelerator programme for its delivery executives to transition into full-time, managerial-level jobs with a fixed salary and additional benefits.

The company stated that the “Step Ahead” program is designed to provide an opportunity for executives who wish to change from their flexible engagement with Swiggy into a more dedicated managerial role.

Swiggy has always maintained that our delivery executives have been the backbone of operations. We are proud to offer an income opportunity for more than 2.7 lakh women, men, and children across the country,” Mihir Rajesh Shah (VP Operations, Swiggy), said in a statement.

While most people may view their affiliation with the platform as a way to find work, education, or additional income, there are many who desire more. Swiggy created a Step Ahead’ to give people the chance to change their lives and become managers.

For the position of Fleet Manager, a Swiggy delivery executive needs to hold a college degree, have basic computer skills, and be able to communicate with others.

Managers of delivery executives will manage a fleet. This includes managing metrics such as login hours and cancellations.

Experiential delivery executives have a great deal of knowledge about the challenges and opportunities that delivery brings to a company. Numerous Swiggy delivery professionals have been appointed as fleet managers over the years.

Swiggy’s “Step Ahead” process formalizes this process and intends reserve at least 20% of all Fleet Managers for its delivery executives. Swiggy also plans to reduce the tenure requirement from around two years to one.

Swiggy currently employs more than 270,000 delivery partners throughout the country. They are eligible for benefits like accident insurance and medical coverage, personal loans, legal aid, covid income, emergency support, income assistance during an accident or illness recovery. Bereavement leave, period time off, maternity protection among others.
