Twitter tests a 2,500 character limit per post

Are you fed up with Twitter’s limit on character? Fret not. This micro-blogging site is currently testing a new feature that allows people to go beyond the 280 characters limit in one piece.
Variety reports that Twitter will introduce a new feature called Notes. This will allow users to share essays as a link on Twitter.
Users can now include text — upto 2,500 words — in posts that can both be written, published, and shared on Twitter. A Note card is a tweet with a preview of the longer post that will appear on the Twitter timeline.

The company is currently testing Notes with a limited number of writers from Canada, U.K., Ghana, and Canada.
“Currently, we’re running a closed trial with a small group writers who will help to us learn how best support people coming to Twitter,” said the company.
Twitter posts had a 140 character limit in the beginning. This was to allow them to fit within the official SMS text message limit on mobile phones. It raised the limit to 140 characters for tweets in 2017 to 280 characters.
Twitteratis will have the ability to see the new Notecard in their timeline if they’re following a writer who has posted a Notecard; if someone follows includes a Note URL as a tweet or if someone follows retweets or quotes a Notecard. Individual URLs for Notes can be accessed from any location on Twitter, regardless of whether they are logged into Twitter or not (and even if not).
Twitter is currently undergoing a USD 44 Billion buyout by Tesla Inc CEO Elon Musk.
