WHO: Covid testing and vaccination decline in Afghanistan

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), vaccination and Covid-19 testing in Afghanistan have decreased since the Taliban took over Kabul in mid August.

“CoVID-19 testing + vaccination have declined in Afghanistan since August.” According to Xinhua news agency, the organization tweeted that around 1.6 million vaccine doses could run out if they are not used soon.

The WHO and its partners are supporting vaccination campaigns in 16 of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan to address this problem.

According to the most recent WHO statistics, more than 155,000 Afghans have contracted Covid-19 and over 7,200 people have died from the disease since February 2020, when the first Covid-19 cases were detected in Afghanistan.
