Union minister calls for arrest; police claim that he boarded the van

On Tuesday, Union Minister Shantanu Thakur claimed that he was detained at Birati in North 24 Parganas while the police stated that he had boarded a vehicle.

Birati was the scene of BJP workers gathering as part of their "Shahid Samman Yatra", a party initiative in West Bengal.

Thakur, a member from Bongaon constituency of North 24 Parganas' Lok Sabha, claimed that he was taken into police custody after he tried to perform puja at a temple nearby.

According to a police official, Thakur boarded the vehicle alone while BJP workers were being arrested for illegally assembling there.

Thakur, Jay Prakash Majumdar (and Archana Majumdar) were taken with party workers, supporters, and others to the Airport Police Station.

The Union Minister of State, Ports, Shipping and Waterways stated that he came to offer puja and was detained by the police.

Thakur reacted to the police claim that he wasn't apprehended, and that he boarded the vehicle with the police.

Thakur claimed that the police told Thakur that he was doing illegal work by being there.

He stated, "I believe that democracy has been ended in West Bengal and that ''adhyatma good'' (spiritualism),"
