Three senators stated on Thursday that they tested positive for COVID-19, despite having been vaccinated. This is a high-profile group of breakthrough cases. The news comes as the highly infectious delta variant rapidly spreads across the US.
Sens. Sens. Nearly every senator spent hours on the floor of the Senate last week, participating in an all-night session to vote on budgets before departing town for the August recess.King stated that he felt feverish on Wednesday and sought a COVID test from his doctor.

Wicker's office confirmed that he was positive for the virus on Thursday morning.
His staff stated that Senator Wicker was fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and was in good health.
"He is isolating and all those with whom Senator Wicker was in close contact recently have been notified."
Hickenlooper declared his positive test just a few hours later.
"I feel great, but I will only isolate as per the doctor's instructions. I am grateful for the vaccine and the scientists who created it! Hickenlooper tweeted, "Thank you for limiting my symptoms!"
Get your shot today! A booster is also available!
This breakthrough was made possible by the announcement of US health officials that they would be distributing COVID-19 booster shot to Americans.
The shots were needed to protect against the delta variant, as there are signs of a decline in effectiveness over time.
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) announced August 2 that he tested positive for COVID-19, despite having been vaccinated.
He tweeted, "Sending my best wishes for a speedy recuperation to my good friends & colleagues," on Thursday.
Graham said, "If you haven't already done so, please #GetVaccinated."
Numerous members of Congress have tested positive for COVID-19. Rep. Ron Wright (R-Texas), 67, died early this year from the disease while Rep.-elect Luke Letlow (R-La.), 41, died in December just before he was sworn in.
